Employment for the summer at Glen Cove Swim Club consists of two positions: Lifeguard and Pool Manager. Job descriptions and duties are outlined below. Hiring for a summer season is typically completed by the preceding spring break. Thank you for your interest!

lifeguard

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold current Lifeguard & CPR certification.
  • Must be 15 years of age before first shift worked.
  • Must be available to work from and on Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Duties & Responsibilities*

  • Monitor pool activity and ensure member safety.
  • Possess knowledge of rescue procedures and emergency medical procedures.
  • Help prevent incidents by enforcing all safety guidelines as outlined by facility rules and regulations.
  • Provide sales support in guard shack.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all Glen Cove Swim Club facilities.
  • Support with all member special events including: Swim Meets, Private Parties, Holiday Special Events, etc.
  • Prepare activity reports and incident reports and pool maintenance as needed.
  • Verify all guest credentials and collect required guest fees.
  • Verify member credentials to ensure only current Glen Cove Swim Club Members and approved guests are allowed access to facility.

Local lifeguard certification classes are available through the Farmers Branch Recreation Center and American Red Cross.

POOL MANAGER

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold current CPR certification.
  • Must be 18 years of age.

Duties & Responsibilities*

  • Manage lifeguard staff
    • Schedule:  create the schedule every 2 weeks, oversee schedule swaps, ensure all shifts are covered, send guards home if a shift is overstaffed for that particular day.
    • Payroll:  ensure staff is properly clocked in and out, that no one is clocked in and not on site, ensure hours are limited to no more than 40 per guard (including self), work with Treasurer to enter payroll
    • Staff training:  help board hire and train staff at the beginning of the season, oversee bi-monthly inservice training, recommend shift leaders, train shift leaders on cash register close out, train shift leaders on chemical checking and gneral information regarding the pump house equipment.
    • Staff discipline:  enforce guidelines set by employee handbook, enforce drug testing policy, communicate serious offenses to the board who will take disciplinary action as needed, assist board with disciplinary actions as needed.
    • On shift duties:  ensure opening and closing duties are done every day, ensure proper pool guarding guidelines and Glen Cove policies are followed, ensure safety protocols are followed, ensure cleaning protocols are followed.
  • Manage Facility
    • Pool maintenance:  oversee pool vacuuming twice a week, ensure backwashing is being done as needed, order chemicals from Sunbelt and Leslies, purchase emergency items as needed.
    • Facility maintenance:  Work with Facility Director to ensure watering of grass and front garden and landscaped areas  are cleared of weeds, address any furniture repairs, address electrical and plumbing repairs.  
  • General
    • Parties and special events:  book parties, invoice members for party fees, oversee set up for movie nights, work burger fry nights, help emcee 4th of July activities.
    • Resource:  Be available to the guards for questions/issues. 
    • Communication:  Communicate all issues with board president or secretary, communicate facility issue with facility director, attend summer board meetings.
